Welcome

Welcome

Happy New Year to all of our participants and spectators! This is the very first Ladera Ranch Rides newsletter, so bear with us while we find our footing.

Our January show came and went, and it was a great one. A big thank you to everyone who came out and brought their cars — it’s incredible to see how cool and eclectic the turnout was right out of the gate.

We’re already looking forward to the February show, on the second Sunday of the month as always.

Next show

Sunday, February 9 · 9–11 AM

Mercantile West, in front of Oslo Coffee Co.

Cars allowed in starting 8:30 AM — arrive early to secure a space.

Standouts from the January show

  • Ford Mustang

A clean Mustang anchored the corner this month — long hood, short deck, and all the presence that made it an icon.

    Did you know?

The Mustang is one of fewer than 10 nameplates to stay in continuous production for more than 50 years without missing a model year.

  • 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air

A gleaming '57 Bel Air, one of the most recognizable shapes in American car design.

    From the archives

Chevrolet's 1957 Bel Air advertising leaned all the way into the peak tail-fin era — and the car still turns every head it passes.

  • Porsche 911 GT3

A purposeful 911 GT3 brought a modern edge to the lineup.

    Did you know?

The 911 was originally introduced as the Porsche 901, but the name had to change after Peugeot objected that it held the rights to car names with three digits and a zero in the middle.

  • Datsun 280Z

A sharp Datsun 280Z, representing the golden age of the Japanese sports coupe.

    From the archives

Period Datsun advertising — this one circa 1978 — leaned hard into the 280Z's blend of style and value.

  • Mercedes 300SL Gullwing

A genuine showstopper: the Mercedes 300SL Gullwing, doors up.

    Did you know?

The 300SL Gullwing isn't just one of the most influential cars ever built — it was immortalized in pop culture by Andy Warhol in his 'Cars' series.

  • 1951 Chevrolet Stakebed

A copper-brown 1951 Chevrolet stakebed truck added some honest, working-class charm.

    Why 'stakebed'?

A stake-body truck is essentially a flatbed with built-in sockets around the edge of the bed, so you can drop in upright stakes to make a 'fence' around the load.

January 2025 car of the month

1964 Lincoln Continental

Owned by Elayne Bendel

Our very first Ride of the Month is Elayne Bendel’s 1964 Lincoln Continental — known, fittingly, as “The Queen.” With its slab sides, suicide doors, and unmistakable presence, it was a regal way to launch the series. Thank you, Elayne, for sharing her with us.
